Nowa Sól City Museum

The Municipal Museum in Nowa Sól, located at the intersection of Muzealna and Gimnazjalna Streets, covers an area of 3015 m² and consists of three buildings arranged in a horseshoe shape around an inner courtyard. Historically, the main building was designed by Alexander Gruschwitz in 1883 as a gift for his son Alfred. The museum was established in 1916 and opened in its current form in 1947. Since then, it has become a multi-departmental center housing four main departments: historical, artistic, natural history, and educational. The historical department contains rich numismatic collections comprising approximately 5,000 items, militaria from the 18th to the 20th century, as well as documents and photographs related to the region. The artistic department, inaugurated in 1978, holds 1,500 artifacts, including works by local artists. Meanwhile, the natural history department offers 1,360 items showcasing the flora and fauna of the Oder River region, with exhibits displayed in a specially designed pavilion adorned with a mosaic by Grażyna Graszka. The museum's architecture, listed in the register of historical monuments, features a single-story structure with a high ground floor, a front risalit, and an ornately decorated facade with Renaissance-style windows and pilasters in the Ionic and Tuscan orders. The main entrance is adorned with a sculpture of a woman, flanked by fan-shaped stairs. The museum is surrounded by a concrete wall decorated with mosaics, adding to its unique character. An interesting fact is that the educational department collaborates with local schools, organizing art and history competitions, and also collects local press. The Museum in Nowa Sól is an important cultural hub for the region, combining history, art, and nature, and its collections attract both residents and tourists.
