wikipedia
Nowy Dwór Gdański, formerly known as Tiegenhof, is a town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, situated on the Tuga River in the Vistula Żuławy region. Its history dates back to the early Middle Ages, when the area was part of the Duchy of Pomerania and later the State of the Teutonic Order. After the Peace of Toruń in 1466, the Żuławy region was incorporated into the Kingdom of Poland, which influenced the further development of the area. The main factor in the growth of Nowy Dwór was the Falkenberg family, who established the Nowy Dwór economy in the 16th century by bringing settlers from the Netherlands, contributing to the drainage and development of the surrounding land. The town prospered, and in the 19th century, it gained significance as an important industrial center with breweries, weaving mills, and other craft workshops. In 1880, Nowy Dwór Gdański was granted town rights. Architecturally, it boasts landmarks such as the neo-Gothic Church of the Transfiguration, an 1878 granary, a 1909 water tower, and distinctive 19th-century buildings. During the Free City of Danzig period after World War I, the town gained importance as the Żuławy district, developing its transport infrastructure. World War II brought immense destruction, but after the war, the town began to rebuild, and in 1950, the first Culture House in Poland was opened here. Today, Nowy Dwór Gdański is a town with a rich cultural heritage that attracts tourists, as well as diverse religious communities. An interesting fact is that the Żuławy Narrow-Gauge Railway operated in the region, and water transport via the Vistula Lagoon Canal was crucial for the local economy. The town cooperates with partners from Hennef, Sarny, and Velká nad Veličkou, contributing to international development. Nowy Dwór Gdański is a place that combines a rich history with dynamic modern growth while preserving its unique architectural and cultural features.
