The Nowy Tomyśl Zoo was established in 1974 and is located within the Culture and Recreation Park, initially covering an area of 3.4 hectares. The history of the zoo dates back to its beginnings, when the first animals were two brown bears donated by a circus from Warsaw. In the following years, the zoo expanded its collection with animals from closing zoos in Zielona Góra, Śrem, and Września. Today, the zoo spans over 7 hectares and is home to around 200 animals, including predators, ungulates, and birds, representing 48 species, most of which are easy to keep. Among the species on display are baboons, green monkeys, rhesus macaques, Przewalski's horses, and Hartmann's mountain zebras, with the latter two being part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP). The zoo also serves an educational and cultural role, and nearby is the Museum of Wickerwork and Hop Growing, highlighting its importance to the local community and tourists, who can explore both the fauna and the traditions of the region.
