The Nur Commune, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Ostrów County, was established in 1870 when the town of Nur lost its town rights and was transformed into a rural commune. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Łomża Voivodeship. The seat of the commune, the village of Nur, is the central point of the region, surrounded by picturesque villages such as Godlewo-Warsze-Godlewo-Mierniki and Zaszków. The commune covers an area of 102.85 km², predominantly agricultural land (75%) and forests (18%). In 2004, the commune had a population of 3,230, which decreased to 2,759 by 2017. The history of the commune is closely tied to the transformation of the town into a village, which influenced its development. The Nur Commune has its own administrative villages (sołectwa), which cultivate local traditions and customs. The region also includes settlements without administrative village status, such as Bochny or Cempory. It is worth noting that the commune borders other administrative units, such as the Boguty-Pianki and Ceranów communes, fostering interregional cooperation. Despite its small population, the Nur Commune boasts rich traditions and retains its local character, making it an interesting place on the map of Masovia.
