wikipedia
The observation tower on Mount Cergowa, built in 2018 at the summit of Cergowa (716.4 meters above sea level) in the Dukla Beskids, is a popular tourist attraction. Its construction was an initiative of the Dukla municipality, and it was officially opened on October 27, 2018. The tower features a wooden structure that narrows toward the top and consists of a base measuring 9.5 x 9.5 meters, three intermediate levels leading to an observation platform with seating, all covered by a multi-pitched roof. The total height of the tower is 22 meters, and its design references traditional Canadian drilling towers, though this was not entirely in line with the architect's original vision. The creator of the concept was also inspired by the form of wooden church towers, as a cross was initially planned to be placed at the mountain's summit. For this reason, the tower takes the shape of a distorted cross, which is evident not only in its elevation but also in the layout of the observation platform. After two years of use, the tower was modernized by adding a platform between the top level and the roof, allowing visitors to enjoy an unobstructed panoramic view of the Low Beskids despite the tall trees. Since December 18, 2020, tourists have been able to climb an additional four meters higher. From the tower, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the Bieszczady, Sącz Beskids, Gorce, Slovak Carpathians, and Tatra Mountains, making it an attractive destination for both locals and tourists. The tower is not only a tourist site but also a place that reflects the history and local culture of the region. An interesting fact is that the tower's design evolved due to adjustments made to comply with the Local Spatial Development Plan, highlighting the influence of formal regulations on contemporary architecture.
