Stary Browar, located in the center of Poznań at 42 Półwiejska Street, is a unique combination of a commercial facility and an art gallery, opened on November 5, 2003. Its concept was created by Grażyna Kulczyk, and it is currently owned by the Deutsche Asset Management fund. Developed in accordance with the "50:50" idea, it simultaneously serves as a space for business and art, making it a unique place on the map of Poznań. The building, an example of adaptive reuse of a post-industrial heritage site—the former Hugger Brewery—was designed by Studio ADS, with the interior design of the passages created by set designer Ryszard Kaja. Stary Browar neighbors modern skyscrapers such as Poznań Financial Centre and Andersia Tower, and its total area is approximately 130,000 m², housing around 210 retail and dining outlets. In 2007, a new wing of the complex was opened, with an area of over 65,000 m², featuring shops, offices, and an entertainment center, along with parking for 1,200 cars. An integral part of the complex is also the Blow Up Hall 50 50 hotel-gallery, which attracts both tourists and art enthusiasts. Stary Browar has won numerous awards, including the title of the world's best shopping center from the International Council of Shopping Centers in 2005 and 2008, and was recognized as one of the 20 architectural icons built after 1989. Despite its successes, the facility has also been the subject of controversies, including irregularities in land sales and allegations of administrative violations during the construction of the new wing. Stary Browar is a place that combines history with modernity, art with commerce, and its impact on the culture of Poznań is immeasurable.
