Olszewka

Olszewka, a village in the Masovian Voivodeship, located in the Przasnysz County, within the municipality of Jednorożec, lies on the Orzyc River and within the Green Wilderness (Puszcza Zielona). Its name derives from the alder trees (olsza) that grow in the area, and the region is rich in natural diversity and cultural traditions. The history of Olszewka dates back to at least the second half of the 17th century, when the village began to take shape. Olszewka was associated with beekeeping, and its inhabitants paid a honey tribute as part of their beekeeping privileges. Due to difficult conditions and disputes with Prussian authorities, the residents were forced to fight for their rights. In the 18th century, the village was known for its wooden architecture, which has survived to this day, including houses from the early 20th century that are listed in the municipal heritage register. Olszewka also features many examples of small sacral architecture, including a statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1838 and numerous roadside crosses. In the 19th century, the village had a developed craft and trade infrastructure with several shops, and a school providing education existed here as early as 1817. Olszewka also suffered destruction during World War II, when the resistance movement was active, and many residents faced tragic consequences due to the war. After the war, the village gained new institutional aspects, such as a school and a community center. Modern-day Olszewka is a community with preserved traditions and restored monuments, featuring beautiful landscapes and natural monuments, such as an oak and a pine tree in the local forestry district. In 2023, the launch of a railway line is planned, which may contribute to the further development of the village as an attractive point on the regional tourist map.
