wikipedia
The municipality of Jednorożec is a rural administrative unit located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within Przasnysz County, with its seat in the village of Jednorożec. It was established in 1867 as a result of an administrative reform when Przasnysz County was created in the Polish Kingdom. At that time, the municipality encompassed a number of villages, and its structure survived various political and administrative changes, including wartime periods and the era of the Polish People's Republic, when rural municipalities were abolished in favor of smaller administrative units called gromadas. After 1973, the municipality was restored and currently covers an area of 231.57 km², more than half of which is agricultural land. Agriculture predominates in the municipality, with dairy cattle farming being the main source of income for its residents. In 2019, the municipality had a population of 7,081, with various forms of support for economic activity, particularly in the construction, trade, and transport services sectors, where 174 business entities were registered. Jednorożec is rich in traditions linked to its history, which reflects the socio-political changes in the region. During the 1921 census, a diversity of settlements was recorded, and during World War II, the municipality was under German occupation. The rural-dominated character of the municipality fosters the preservation of local traditions and culture. It is also surrounded by neighboring municipalities: Baranowo, Chorzele, Krasnosielc, Krzynowłoga Mała, Płoniawy-Bramura, and Przasnysz, making it part of a broader regional context. The main localities within its boundaries include not only Jednorożec but also Budy Rządowe, Lipa, Olszewka, and Stegna. Interestingly, the municipality is predominantly agricultural, which influences its demographic structure and the employment of its residents. Despite its small population and the associated challenges, the municipality strives to adapt and support the local community through various economic and cultural initiatives.
