The municipality of Opalenica, located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship within Nowy Tomyśl County, is an urban-rural municipality with its seat in the town of Opalenica. Previously, from 1975 to 1998, the municipality was part of the Poznań Voivodeship. According to demographic data, in 2004 the municipality had a population of 15,602, and by the end of 2017, the population had increased to 16,423, accounting for 14.7% of the entire county's population. The municipality covers an area of 147.69 km², of which 67% is agricultural land and 25% is forested.
