wikipedia
Osieczna, located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, is a town with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages, with the first mentions recorded in 1393. The town, which originally belonged to the castellan Wojsław Borek, was granted town rights around 1370. Over the following centuries, Osieczna witnessed many events, including German settlement and the development of crafts and trade. By the 15th century, a school was already mentioned, indicating the growing local culture. Osieczna had many owners, including the Górka and Czarnkowski families, who contributed to the town's architectural development by building a castle on Lake Łoniewskie and churches. The historic landscape features the late Gothic Church of the Holy Trinity, which has a turbulent history related to the Reformation, and the Baroque Monastery of St. Valentine, built for the Reformed Franciscans in the 18th century. Osieczna is also home to post windmills, which testify to the local milling tradition and now serve as a tourist attraction. The town experienced many political upheavals, including the partitions, World War II, and fires that contributed to its destruction. Despite difficult times, after the war, Osieczna retained its craft and trade character and developed as an important local center. In 2011, Osieczna had 2,188 inhabitants and is known for its cultural activities, monuments, and historical monographs that enrich its heritage. Interestingly, in 1945, it paid tribute to its residents who participated in uprisings, marking significant events in Polish history.
