Ożarów is an urban-rural municipality with its seat in Ożarów, located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, within Opatów County. Before 1870, the municipality was known as the Jakubowice Commune. From 1975 to 1998, it was part of the Tarnobrzeg Voivodeship. Ożarów is unique in that its area includes not only rural lands but also three former towns: Gliniany, Janików, and Lasocin. According to data from June 30, 2004, the municipality had a population of 11,585. Geographically, Ożarów covers an area of 183.29 km², with a significant portion dedicated to agricultural and forest land. Agricultural land accounts for 71% of the area, while forests cover 20%, highlighting the region's strong agricultural potential. The municipality of Ożarów makes up 20.11% of the total area of Opatów County. The municipality comprises numerous villages and a variety of settlements, some with rich historical backgrounds. One interesting example is Gliniany, which once held town status, and its former name, Gliniany Poduchowne—officially recognized as obsolete and abolished in 2015—serves as a reminder of local traditions. The region also includes many other settlements, such as Dąbrówka, Kazub, and Polesie Mikułowskie. Neighboring municipalities, like Annopol and Ćmielów, play significant roles in the regional cultural and economic life.
