Łapy is a town located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within Białystok County, situated on the Narew River and within the buffer zone of the Narew National Park. In 2018, it had a population of 15,689. The town was established on January 1, 1925, through the merger of several small settlements. It is known for its historical Railway Rolling Stock Repair Facilities and other institutions such as a dairy and a former sugar factory. Łapy has a rich history dating back to the 13th century, and its name originates from a noble family that settled in the area. During World War II, the town was 80% destroyed, and its community suffered the tragic fate of the Jewish population, who were forced into a ghetto. Łapy is also a center of medical and educational significance, with a well-developed infrastructure of primary and secondary schools. Notable heritage sites include the Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul, railway workers' housing estates, and houses from the 1920s and 1930s. The town has an extensive transport network, including two provincial roads and a railway connection. Łapy is also rich in cultural traditions, with numerous social and sports organizations, including Sports Clubs and a University of the Third Age, as well as a local theater. An interesting fact is that plans are underway to establish the Łapy Subzone as part of the Tarnobrzeg Special Economic Zone, which could boost the local economy. Thanks to its proximity to the Narew National Park, Łapy also has tourism potential, offering attractions related to nature and the history of the region.
