wikipedia
Pniewy is a town in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, situated on Lake Pniewskie, which received its town rights before 1394. In the Middle Ages, there was a fortified settlement here, and the first mentions of the locality date back to 1256. Pniewy were known for their developed crafts – in the 16th century, 40 artisans operated here, and the town had a market square, a town hall, and defensive walls. In the 19th century, after the Second Partition of Poland, Pniewy found themselves under Prussian rule, with an influx of German settlers. After World War I, the town returned to Poland, and during the interwar period (Second Polish Republic), local crafts and education flourished. The destruction of World War II brought much suffering to the inhabitants, and after the war, the town underwent reconstruction and infrastructure development. In Pniewy, you can find numerous historical monuments, including churches (St. Lawrence, Holy Spirit, and St. John the Baptist), a historic post station, and a synagogue, which testify to the town's rich history. A unique feature is the 18th-century Szołdryscy Palace and the Ursuline convent garden. Today, Pniewy is a local economic center, home to the Honda logistics center, and an active hub for sports and culture. The town has various educational institutions, and residents are organized into local sports clubs. Religious communities also operate in Pniewy, including the Roman Catholic Church and a Jehovah's Witnesses congregation. Throughout its history, Pniewy has experienced many interesting moments, such as the participation of its inhabitants in uprisings and the development of local crafts, making this place valuable from a cultural and historical perspective.
