Przeciszów

Przeciszów, a village in Lesser Poland located in Oświęcim County, boasts a rich historical and architectural heritage. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when it served as an important stop on the trade route from Ukraine to Wrocław. The village was associated with the Myszkowski family, known for promoting fish farming, particularly carp breeding. Przeciszów was also the scene of Tatar military marches in the 14th century. The most significant monument is the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, built between 1816 and 1823 in the Neo-Baroque style, featuring richly decorated interiors. Next to the church, there are numerous roadside chapels and crosses, including the oldest chapel dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk from 1680. The village also has two educational institutions, a kindergarten, and a cultural center, indicating a developing social infrastructure. An important event in Przeciszów's history was the return of Catholicism in 1578 after a brief period of Calvinism. In the 19th century, the village began to develop with the construction of schools and a railway line in 1884, along with the dynamic growth of local institutions. The area around Przeciszów is part of the Carp Valley, and the Przyręb ponds are an important site for diverse bird species, listed under the Natura 2000 network. The village hosts various cultural events, including the Festival of Przeciszów Municipality, and residents actively engage in local community life. Historical figures associated with the village, such as Piotr Myszkowski, Bishop of Płock and Kraków, and Ignacy Fik, a poet and activist of the Polish Workers' Party, also hold particular significance. In recent years, Przeciszów has gained importance due to the growth of tourism, especially because of its proximity to the Energylandia amusement park. The residents show great care for local traditions and culture, making Przeciszów an interesting place on the map of Lesser Poland.
