wikipedia
Przedecz, also known as Moosburg, is a town located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within Koło County, on the shores of Lake Przedeckie. It serves as the seat of the Przedecz urban-rural municipality and boasts a rich history dating back to the 11th century, when the lands around the lake were owned by a Benedictine abbey. The town was a royal city of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland, with the first mentions in documents from the 12th century, indicating its connection to the Archdiocese of Gniezno. Significant historical events in Przedecz include the Teutonic Knights' invasions in the 14th century and the recapture of Kuyavia by King Casimir the Great. Przedecz was granted expanded town rights in the first half of the 14th century, and its location was confirmed in 1420. From the 15th century, the town became an important trade center and a venue for sessions of the noble courts. In 1867, Przedecz lost its town rights, which were not restored until 1919. During the Polish People's Republic, a shoe factory was built here, and cultural institutions were established. Among the architectural attractions of Przedecz is a medieval castle built during the reign of Casimir the Great, which, however, has not survived to this day; the remains of the castle were converted into an Evangelical church. Also preserved in the town is a Neo-Gothic church of the Holy Family, built on the site of the burned-down Church of St. Nicholas. The town hall from 1826 and the municipal butcher shops are other examples of interesting Classicist architecture in the town. Przedecz is also a place of remembrance, with a monument commemorating those who fell in the fight for freedom and a parish cemetery that features a symbolic grave of Leon Kulesza, a victim of the Katyn massacre. The town has undergone various demographic transformations, and the current population is approximately 1,566 according to recent data. In terms of culture, traditional events are organized, including competitions for creating patterns with sand. Przedecz is home to the football club "Baszta," which competes at the regional level. The location of Przedecz in the picturesque Kuyavian Lake District and its associated lake make the town an attractive destination on the map of Greater Poland.
