wikipedia
Przemyśl Główny is a historic railway station located in the center of Przemyśl, in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, classified as a regional station. Its construction took place between 1859 and 1860, and it was opened on November 4, 1860. Architecturally, the station stands out for its Neo-Baroque style, which was applied during its reconstruction in 1895. Over the years, it has undergone numerous renovations, including in 1922, 1959, and from 1988 to 1995. Between 2010 and 2012, the station underwent a comprehensive renovation costing approximately 25 million PLN, restoring its historical appearance from a century ago, including Marian Stroński’s paintings and the richly decorated main hall, whose ceilings are adorned with works by Feliks Wygrzywalski and Jan Talaga. The station is one of the most impressive buildings on the railway line connecting Kraków with Lviv, which was once part of the Karl Ludwig Railway. Przemyśl Główny also serves as a Polish-Ukrainian passenger border crossing, highlighting its importance in international transport. Notable historical train connections from the station include the "Małopolska" express to Gdynia, the overnight "Lwów Express," and the "Przemyślanin" fast train to Świnoujście, which was the longest railway connection in Poland, covering 1008 km in just under 18 hours, earning it the nickname "Polish Orient Express." Due to its architectural and historical value, the station is not only an important transport hub but also a cultural heritage site of the region.
