Puławy is a city in the western part of the Lublin Voivodeship, situated on the Vistula River, known for its rich history and architectural heritage. Built on the edge of the Małopolska Vistula Gorge, the city was once the seat of the Czartoryski family, which contributed to its cultural development. Although Puławy does not have the status of a city with county rights, it is the largest city in the Lublin Voivodeship. Its location on the river and near the Kazimierz Landscape Park makes it an attractive tourist destination in the so-called tourist triangle of Puławy-Kazimierz Dolny-Nałęczów. The architectural highlight of Puławy is the Czartoryski Palace, inspired by Baroque and Neoclassical styles, surrounded by a picturesque park that includes the Temple of the Sibyl, the first Polish national museum, founded by Izabela Czartoryska. The city is rich in monuments, such as the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which imitates the Roman Pantheon, and numerous garden structures. The history of Puławy dates back to the 15th century, when the settlement was recorded as Pollawy, and over the centuries it went through various stages of development, including serving as an important cultural center during the reign of the Czartoryskis, and later experiencing destruction during the partitions and World War II. Despite this, the city survived and became an industrial, scientific, and cultural center. Puławy is home to various research institutions, such as the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation and the National Veterinary Research Institute. The city also has a rich cultural life, organizing numerous festivals and sporting events, such as the National Street and Cross-Country Runs. Interestingly, Bolesław Prus spent his childhood in Puławy, and the city has its own urban anthem, composed by jazz musician Henryk Majewski. Additionally, Puławy offers free internet access and various cultural institutions, including museums and a cinema. Despite changes over the years, Puławy remains a city with a rich history, strong industry, and a vibrant cultural community.
