wikipedia
Rawa Mazowiecka is a town in the Łódź Voivodeship, serving as the seat of the Rawa County, situated on the Rawka River. As the former capital of the Rawa Land and the Rawa Voivodeship, the town boasts a rich history dating back to 1228, when it was first mentioned in historical records. In 1321, Rawa was granted town rights, and in the 15th century, it became the capital of the Duchy of Rawa. One of the most significant historical events was the incorporation of the duchy into the Polish Crown in 1462 by Casimir IV Jagiellon, which contributed to the town's development. Rawa Mazowiecka is home to numerous historical monuments, including the ruins of the castle of the Mazovian dukes, a preserved tower, as well as monastic complexes of the Augustinians and Jesuits. The town also features churches, such as the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the hospital Church of the Holy Spirit. The historical value of the town is emphasized by its Old Town district, which is under strict conservation protection. An interesting fact is that in 2016, Rawa Mazowiecka was classified as one of the most polluted towns in the European Union. During World War II, the town experienced tragic events, including the establishment of a ghetto from which Jews were deported to the extermination camp in Treblinka. After the war, the town was rebuilt, and its industrial development was significantly influenced by the Instrument and Measurement Equipment Plant. Today, Rawa Mazowiecka is known for its cultural and tourist activities, including seasonal tourist traffic on the Narrow-Gauge Railway. The town also takes pride in its many honorary citizens, including Józef Piłsudski and Eugeniusz Walczuk. International cooperation includes partner towns such as Nyírbátor in Hungary and Boskovice in the Czech Republic. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, Rawa Mazowiecka boasts a diverse cultural heritage that attracts both residents and tourists.
