wikipedia
Located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, Rawicz is a city with a rich history dating back to 1638, when it was founded by Adam Olbracht Przyjemski. Over the centuries, the city underwent numerous changes, including destruction during wars that led to its economic decline. In the 18th century, it experienced growth related to craftsmanship and weaving, and Rawicz became an important industrial center, with its market square and Baroque town hall serving as symbols of this period. From the time of the partitions, the city remembers the influx of German settlers and the decline of the cloth-making industry, which had dominated for centuries. In the 19th century, animal husbandry and the food industry also developed, including the production of spirits and milling. The famous Rawicz sausages from the Scholz factory contributed to the local identity. In the 20th century, the city witnessed events related to World War II, including brutal executions and occupation, which devastated the local community. After the war, Rawicz faced repression, and its prison became a place for detaining opposition activists. In the postwar years, the city rebuilt and developed, introducing new infrastructure and industrial plants. Architecturally, Rawicz attracts attention with its monuments, including the Neo-Gothic Church of Christ the King, the post-Evangelical Church of St. Andrew Bobola, and the Baroque town hall in the Market Square. The Planty Park, the second largest in Poland after Kraków's, was transformed from former defensive ramparts and has undergone revitalization. An interesting feature is the outline of the foundations of the demolished synagogue, which is now located in a parking lot. Rawicz also speaks through its active cultural activities, including the Cultural Center and the Rawicz Public Library. The city has diverse religious communities, reflecting its multinational character. In the area of sports, there are many clubs, such as RKS Kolejarz Rawicz in speedway and Rawia Rawicz in football. Rawicz is linked with partner cities, which fosters international cooperation. With prospects for industrial development and fresh initiatives in the field of renewable energy, the city is attracting more and more investors.
