The Road Transport Memorial Chamber in Skwierzyna is a museum established in 1980 in the administrative building of the Skwierzyna Road District of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. Its creation was initiated by Stanisław Brzeziński, the head of the District, and the institution aims to preserve and present the history of road construction in the region. The museum houses extensive collections, including documents, publications, maps, and plans related to road construction, as well as surveying instruments, tools used by road workers, elements of uniforms, and various memorabilia such as medals and diplomas. An interesting exhibit is the foundation act of a culvert in the village of Rokitno, which was unearthed in a bottle during roadworks in the 1980s. The museum also boasts an impressive collection of plaques, signposts, and road signs, including a reconstructed set of signs that were in use in Poland in 1938. The outdoor exhibition is enhanced by various elements of road infrastructure, such as milestones, stone and wooden signposts, as well as a towed roller produced before World War II at the Gutmann factory in Frankfurt an der Oder. The institution is not only an important site for enthusiasts of history and road transport but also attracts tourists seeking interesting facts about the development of communication infrastructure in Poland.
