Słup Reservoir, also known as Zbiornik Wodny Słup, is a retention reservoir located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, near Jawor. Its construction began in 1974 following a resolution by the Council of Ministers regarding the development of the copper industry, with the aim of supplying Legnica and surrounding towns with drinking water. The reservoir, with an area of 4.9 km² and a capacity of 38.69 million m³, regulated the flow of the Nysa Szalona River and also served a flood protection function. The structure consists of an earth-concrete dam with a height of 21 m and a length of 940 m. An interesting part of the reservoir's history is its connection to the Battle of the Katzbach, where Field Marshal Blücher developed his strategy. Beneath the reservoir's waters lie the palace where he stayed and the original obelisk commemorating the clash. Interestingly, the presence of high-quality clean water supports biodiversity, resulting in the presence of 18 fish species and approximately 25 species of waterfowl. The reservoir's ecosystem, resembling a glacial lake, and the PTTK tourist trail running along it attract nature enthusiasts, although any water recreation is strictly prohibited except for fishing.
