Among its architectural treasures are the Chewra Thilim Synagogue, the town hall, and the PKP (Polish State Railways) station building complex. The history of the municipality dates back to 1941, when it was formed through the merger of several smaller municipalities. After World War II, the municipality underwent numerous administrative reforms and was reestablished in 1973. Skawina was one of the most populous municipalities in the Kraków County, with 43,235 residents recorded in 2016. The area is home to numerous cultural organizations, including a folk band, choirs, brass bands, and dance groups, which enrich the local cultural life. The municipality borders several others, including Kraków, enhancing its tourist appeal and connectivity. An interesting fact is that Skawina was once known as an important industrial center, but today it focuses on tourism development and the promotion of local traditions.
