Skopanie is a village in Poland, located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, within Tarnobrzeg County, in the municipality of Baranów Sandomierski. It boasts a rich history dating back to 1568, when it became the property of the castellan Rafał Leszczyński. The name of the village likely derives from the word "skop." Between 1975 and 1998, Skopanie belonged to the Tarnobrzeg Voivodeship, and according to the 2011 census, it had a population of 2,755. The village is the seat of the Divine Mercy Parish, with the construction of its pastoral center beginning in the 1980s and culminating in the completion of the church, which was consecrated in 1990. Skopanie is known for the "Wisan" Lace Factory, one of the five main lace producers in Poland. Established in 1951, its origins trace back to the pre-war period. The factory produces both cotton and polyester lace, and its products are sold worldwide, including in the USA and New Zealand. Thanks to its traditions, Skopanie also has a vibrant cultural scene: it is home to the "Skopanie" Song and Dance Ensemble, which has won numerous awards and had the honor of performing for Pope John Paul II in 1995. Skopanie is also notable for its sporting activities. The football club "Wisan," with a rich history and tradition, has achieved success at various league levels and is known for its diverse sports sections, including football and table tennis. The Factory Cultural Center, which operated until 1997, promoted artistic activities among residents and supported various artistic groups.
