The commune of Smyków, located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship within Końskie County, was established on January 1, 1973. Its history is linked to the earlier existence of the Miedzierza commune, and after several administrative changes, it was reestablished on January 1, 1992. The commune comprises several village administrations (sołectwa), including Smyków, Miedzierza, and part of Królewiec.
The commune covers an area of 62.11 km², of which 47% is agricultural land and 48% is forested land, highlighting the natural richness of the area. In 2004, the commune was home to 3,681 people, with strong support for the PiS party, reaching 78.9% in the 2007 parliamentary elections.
