wikipedia
The Śrem Museum, located at 89 Mickiewicza Street in Śrem, has a rich history tied to the collecting passion of Feliks Sałaciński. In 1895, as a child, he discovered a copper coin from the time of Sigismund III Vasa. After World War I, Sałaciński organized a small museum room in his apartment, amassing up to 4,000 exhibits by World War II, though these suffered significant damage during the war. Although he attempted to donate the collection to the city, most of it ended up in the hands of his relatives, with some items later repurchased. After the war, in 1976, the museum moved to a section of the old town hall, and in 1991, it acquired its own dedicated building, where it remains to this day. In 2021, the institution was expanded to include an exhibition pavilion, an event hall, and a modern multimedia exhibition. In front of the museum stand two sculptures by Magdalena Abakanowicz, adding architectural character to the site. The museum’s collections include regional exhibits across archaeological, ethnographic, historical, guild craftsmanship, military, and shooting brotherhood departments. It organizes thematic exhibitions, educational lessons, photography displays, and galleries of painting and sculpture, engaging both local and international artistic communities. Additionally, the museum is active in publishing, releasing brochures, cultural-historical albums, and editing the bimonthly "Gazeta Śremska." Thus, the Śrem Museum is not only a place for preserving and showcasing local heritage but also an active participant in the cultural life of the region.
