St. Joseph the Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Warsaw

The Parish of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Warsaw, established in 1938 by Fr. Jan Sitnik, is one of the most active parishes in the Archdiocese of Warsaw. Initially built as a wooden chapel, it suffered damage during World War II. However, reconstruction began as early as 1945 and continued for many years, culminating in the consecration of the brick church in 1963. Architecturally, the upper church of St. Joseph is a monumental, three-nave structure with a transept and a dome, adorned with symbolic-abstract stained glass windows. The interior showcases a blend of artistic styles, where naturalism, folklorism, and modernity harmoniously coexist, creating a unique sacred space. The parish is renowned for its perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, available 24/7 since 1987, and its deep devotion to the Divine Mercy, marked by annual celebrations of the Feast of Divine Mercy in Moczydło Park. Various communities are active within the parish, including the Living Rosary, Catholic Action, and the Altar Servers' Ministry, fostering both social and spiritual engagement. A notable event is the annual Walking Pilgrimage of the Disabled to Jasna Góra, which has been held since 1992. The parish also holds the status of the diocesan sanctuary of St. Joseph, underscoring its importance within the local community. In 2001, a statue of the Merciful Christ was erected in Moczydło Park, further emphasizing the parish's dedication to this devotion. The lower church, located in the basement, features its own unique architecture, with panoramic murals and stained glass windows, enriching the religious experience of the parishioners. Thanks to these elements, the parish serves as a significant spiritual and cultural center in Warsaw, attracting both local faithful and visitors.
