St. Michael the Archangel Church in Siedlce

St. Michael the Archangel Church in Siedlce, built in the second half of the 13th century in the Gothic style, boasts a rich history and fascinating architecture. The first mention of the church dates back to 1335, and its current form was significantly expanded in the 17th century. The structure is single-naved, with a rectangular chancel, built of brick, unplastered, and buttressed. The interior features a polychrome coffered ceiling from 1618, depicting biblical scenes from the Book of Genesis, and christological paintings on the galleries. The church also houses stone epitaphs from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as numerous tombstones of the Nostitz family. In the 18th century, a wooden bell tower was added to the church, and a thorough renovation between 1921 and 1925 altered, among other elements, the western gable of the building. In 1945, the church was returned to the Catholic community. The adjacent cemetery is the burial site of Polish soldiers who died in German captivity in 1939. The church, bell tower, and cemetery are listed in the register of historical monuments, highlighting their cultural and historical significance. The church in Siedlce is an important part of the cultural heritage of Lower Silesia, blending features from various eras and architectural artistry.
