wikipedia
The Stanisław Murzynowski Museum in Murzynów is a unique ethnographic site located on the banks of the Vistula River, showcasing the peasant culture of the region with a particular focus on the inhabitants' relationship with the river. Founded in the 1970s by ethnography professor Jacek Olędzki, the museum is housed in a wooden, thatched-roof building that once served as the home of a river ferryman. Professor Olędzki chose the museum's patron, Stanisław Murzynowski, known for the first Polish translation of the New Testament, due to his connection to the area. The early 20th-century building survived an attempted demolition during the construction of the Włocławek Reservoir, thanks to Olędzki's efforts. After the death of Tomasz Caban in 2010, the museum faced the threat of closure, but through collaboration with the Municipal Office in Brudzeń Duży and the University of Warsaw, it was reopened in 2016 with a new exhibition. The museum displays a wealth of regional history and ethnography, focusing on the Vistula-related occupations of the locals, such as fishing, rafting, and navigation, as well as willow weaving and fruit growing. The collections include various fishing accessories, religious paintings, archaeological finds, and items related to Professor Olędzki, including gifts from the local community. A commemorative plaque honoring Olędzki is mounted on the exterior wall of the cottage, highlighting his contribution to local culture. An additional attraction is the nearby docking spot for boats or kayaks, encouraging exploration of the Vistula's charms. The museum serves as an important educational and cultural center, and its exhibits testify to the local heritage, whose protection and promotion Professor Olędzki highly valued.
