wikipedia
Stegna is a village in Poland, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, in Przasnysz County, within the gmina (municipality) of Jednorożec. Its name in the Kurpie dialect means "worn paths," which reflects the characteristic landscape of the region. The village has a rich history, with traces of settlement dating back to antiquity and the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, Stegna was owned by the Krasiński family, and in 1916, the village was almost completely destroyed by a fire. Administratively, the village underwent many changes until it finally became part of the Jednorożec gmina in Przasnysz County and the Masovian Voivodeship in 1999. The architecture of Stegna consists of folk houses and several roadside crosses and chapels, including its main attraction – a wooden post chapel from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. The village's culture is shaped by Kurpie traditions, which blend with local customs. The residents of Stegna engage in community life through non-governmental organizations and sports clubs, such as the Jednorożec Badminton Club. The village has a private kindergarten, a vehicle inspection station, a sawmill, and a fuel station. In 2017, an outdoor exhibition of historical photographs was organized near the belfry in Jednorożec, demonstrating an interest in local history and culture. Stegna reflects Poland's political and social changes over the centuries, and its development is linked to its proximity to Jednorożec, leading to closer cooperation between these two localities. The residents, who were numerous in the 20th century, continue to cultivate the traditions of their ancestors, making this village an interesting place on the map of Kurpie. Currently, Stegna has about 624 inhabitants, indicating demographic stability and a lasting interest in the history and culture of the region.
