wikipedia
Strzałkowo is a village in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Słupca County, with a population of 5,599 as of 2021. It is located 4 km west of Słupca and 70 km from Poznań. Its history dates back to the 10th century, and the name derives from a peasant named Strzałek, who settled in the area. Among its important historical artifacts is a document from 1432, pledging loyalty to King Władysław Jagiełło. The village developed significantly, especially after the arrival of German settlers in 1781. In the 19th century, a school and a railway station were built, contributing to its further growth. Interestingly, Strzałkowo was the final stop on the Berlin railway line, leading to the popular saying in Greater Poland, "Europe ends in Strzałkowo." The village played a key role in the fight for independence, including the Greater Poland Uprising, and in strikes against Germanization. During World War II, Strzałkowo was bombed by the Germans, and after the war, investments were made in infrastructure, including a dairy, a sawmill, and a social care home. In 1978, a monument was unveiled to honor the Greater Poland insurgents and the victims of World War II. Strzałkowo is home to the Church of St. Dorothea from the 1930s and a 19th-century manorial park. The parish cemetery holds the graves of nine Poles killed by the Germans in September 1939. The municipality boasts extensive cultural infrastructure, including a Municipal Cultural Center, libraries, kindergartens, and schools. The village is well-connected via National Road 92 and a major railway line. Strzałkowo also has a sports club, KS Polanin, and residents have access to various sports facilities, such as a stadium, a sports and events hall, and a sports complex. Additionally, the village is covered by surveillance and offers Wi-Fi hotspots. Strzałkowo takes pride in its rich historical and cultural heritage, remaining an active and vibrant place in the region.
