wikipedia
Suchedniów is a town located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, within the Skarżysko County, with a rich history dating back to ancient times when iron was smelted in the area. The first mention of Suchedniów comes from 1224. During the Middle Ages, the region was an important industrial center developed by the bishops of Kraków. Suchedniów stood out for its iron industry, known in the 18th century for its tinplate works and foundries, and in the 19th century for mining. The town actively participated in the January Uprising, and during World War II, it was a site of partisan activities and executions of the Jewish population. Suchedniów gained town rights in 1962 and experienced intensive development after the war, but in the 21st century, the collapse of its main industrial plant led to a rise in unemployment. The architecture of Suchedniów is distinguished by the 18th-century Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, with its valuable early Baroque altar, and a cemetery with historic tombstones. The town has preserved 19th-century manor houses, including the wooden Kałamarzyk, now part of the Kielce Village Museum. Suchedniów is surrounded by the picturesque nature of the Świętokrzyska Forest, with nature reserves and hiking trails, making it ideal for recreation. The town offers a rich cultural program, with one of the notable institutions being the Orlicz Suchedniów Sports Club, founded in 1924. Suchedniów is a place with a fascinating history, industrial development, and beautiful natural attractions.
