wikipedia
Szczytniki nad Kaczawą is a rural administrative village located in the Lower Silesian district of Legnica, within the municipality of Kunice, known for its rich history dating back to the 13th century. The first records of the settlement come from 1285, and its name suggests a medieval service village specializing in shield production. In the 18th century, a Baroque-style palace was built here, surrounded by a romantic park established by Bernhard von Hardenberg. The park, heavily damaged during World War II, has retained some natural monuments, including pedunculate oaks, as well as convenient walking paths. The village had developed infrastructure, with municipal buildings and a railway that connected it to nearby towns. In the 20th century, Szczytniki was known for piano production and as a popular recreational spot for the residents of Legnica. After World War II, demographic changes occurred with the settlement of expatriates from the Eastern Borderlands, and the village engaged in agricultural activities. Szczytniki is home to a Rural Cultural Center and the "Szczytniczanki" Rural Housewives' Circle, which contribute to the cultural life of the community. In 2019, a bus connection to Legnica was launched, and the village is well-connected via county roads. A notable feature is the nearby ecological peat bog, which serves as a habitat for many rare species of plants and animals. Szczytniki nad Kaczawą, with its historical heritage and natural beauty, offers residents and visitors a unique insight into the local culture and history of the region.
