Tatar Mound in Przemyśl

The Tatar Mound, also known as Przemysław Mound, is a site of historical and cultural significance located on Zniesienie Hill in Przemyśl, at an altitude of 350.3 meters above sea level. It is believed to have originally served as a place of worship for Slavic gods, primarily Swarożyc. The mound measures 39.83 meters in length, 13.3 meters in width, and reaches a height of 10.43 meters to its base. At its summit stood a temple, which was later replaced by a chapel dedicated to St. Leonard, built as atonement for the alleged victims of Christians. Unfortunately, this chapel was destroyed during World War II. The mound dates back to the end of the 9th century, and its construction is associated with the presence of the Magyars in the region. An interesting aspect is its architectural features, which may reflect ancient religious practices and the structural skills of Slavic communities. The Tatar Mound is an important part of Przemyśl's cultural heritage, serving as a testament to its rich history, religious traditions, and influences dating back to pre-Christian times.
