The Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow

The Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow (AMKP) is a prestigious Polish music university with a history dating back to 1888, when it was established as the Conservatory of the Music Society. The academy educates music artists at various levels and consists of the following faculties: Composition, Interpretation, and Music Education; Instrumental Studies; and Vocal and Acting Studies. The academy organizes numerous cultural events, including the Organ Music Days and the International Percussion Festival, as well as international symposia and seminars. Architecturally, the academy has a rich history, with various locations in Krakow, including the Art Nouveau building of the Stary Theater and the former site of the "Florianka" Mutual Insurance Society. Its current headquarters at 43 św. Tomasza Street was acquired in 1993. The institution is also distinguished by its international collaborations, expanding its educational reach through programs such as Erasmus. Among its alumni are renowned musicians, including winners of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, as well as former ministers of culture. It has also awarded honorary doctorates to distinguished figures such as Krzysztof Penderecki and Pope Benedict XVI. The Academy of Music is not only an educational institution but also an important musical hub that blends tradition with modernity and significantly contributes to Krakow's cultural life.
