The ruins of St. George's Chapel in Goleniów are the oldest monument in the city, dating back to the 13th–14th centuries. The octagonal chapel, built of brick and stone, was later replaced by an 18th-century church, which also bore the name of St. George. This church ceased to exist as a result of destruction after World War II. In 2004, as part of the project "Histories Written in Stone," carried out by young people from Poland and Germany, the ruins were uncovered, and excavation work continued until the autumn of the same year. Students and history enthusiasts discovered fragments of the church's foundations, floors, and tombstones. Among the findings were fragments of liturgical vessels and ceramics, as well as the foundations of a medieval temple with Gothic bricks. After the archaeological work, the area was cleaned up and transformed into an accessible park with pathways, benches, lighting, and an information board. The entire area was once a cemetery, where tombstones have been preserved, and in 2004, a memorial stone was erected in honor of all those buried there. The ruins, surrounded by a stone wall, have become a significant cultural element of Goleniów, attracting tourists and history enthusiasts, and serving as a symbol of the region's past.
