The Tomaszów Mazowiecki Commune, located in the Łódź Voivodeship within the Tomaszów County, boasts a rich history and an agricultural-touristic character. Covering an area of 151.3 km², it was inhabited by 9,663 people in 2004. Within the commune, there is a 17th-century Franciscan monastery complex in Smardzewice, as well as two manor houses from the 19th and 20th centuries in Świńsko and Zaborów. The commune is also known for its archaeological sites from the Roman influence period in Ciebłowice. The local nature features reserves such as Sługocice, Jeleń, and Twarda, which protect unique ecosystems. The commune is surrounded by forests, covering about 44% of its area, as well as the Pilica River valley and the Sulejów Reservoir, where a dam with electric turbogenerators was built. Tourism has developed around the reservoir, offering resorts and camping sites in Borki. Smardzewice is home to the only European Bison Breeding Center in central Poland. The commune includes numerous villages, such as Cekanów, Chorzęcin, and Tresta, as well as neighboring communes, making it an attractive destination both naturally and culturally.
