wikipedia
The Underground Tourist Route in Przemyśl is a complex of historic town cellars and sections of the sewage system, managed by the local branch of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK). The idea to create the route emerged around 2001, with the goal of connecting the tenement houses at Market Square 1 and 11. In 2012, the Artistic Cellar under the Bear (Piwnica Artystyczna pod Niedźwiadkiem) was opened, and the full route was made accessible on April 1, 2015. It includes not only 15th-century merchant cellars but also a 17th-century collector running beneath the Market Square and Mostowa Street. The entire underground route is approximately 120 meters long and reaches a depth of up to 10 meters below ground level at its lowest point. The route holds architectural value due to its historical elements, which showcase the city’s past and traditional construction methods. It also allows visitors to explore sites significant to Przemyśl's culture, making it an important tourist attraction in the region. The cellars are open year-round, daily except Mondays, and tours are conducted in organized groups with a guide, enabling a deeper understanding of their history and significance. Admission is charged, which helps fund the ongoing conservation and promotion of this unique site.
