The Municipal Automotive Transport in Skarżysko-Kamienna, established on April 1, 1955, has a rich history that illustrates the development of public transportation in the region. Initially operating with just three buses, the company faced numerous challenges, including issues related to the centrally planned economy of the Polish People's Republic, as well as the challenges of the free market after 1989, which led to a significant decline in transport services. In the 1960s and 1970s, the company introduced luggage taxis, and in 1967, the Municipal Transport Company (MPK) was established, separating it from the Municipal Utility Management Company. Further fleet development resulted in the introduction of more modern vehicles, such as the Jelcz PR-110 and San, but also inevitably led to accidents, including tragic ones at railway crossings. The transformations of the 1990s brought significant organizational changes, including the conversion of MPK into a limited liability company, and serious financial constraints due to increasing competition and unemployment, which led to fleet modernization and the introduction of new services, such as bus rentals. In the 21st century, this modernization continued with the purchase of modern low-floor buses and the reorganization of routes, with an emphasis on integrating residents' voices into decision-making processes. An interesting fact is that the company was historically managed by a woman for the first time in the 1980s. A key architectural element is the headquarters building at 1 Maja Street, where communication infrastructure developed. The Municipal Automotive Transport in Skarżysko-Kamienna not only serves a transport function but also plays a significant role in social integration and shaping the urban landscape, adapting its services to the needs of the local community.
