The Wieliczka Foothills (Pogórze Wielickie) is a physiographic mesoregion located at the foothills of the Beskids, between the valleys of the Wieprzówka and Raba rivers. The boundaries of this area are defined by various geographical units: to the west, it borders the Silesian Foothills (Pogórze Śląskie) and the Oświęcim Basin (Kotlina Oświęcimska), with the Wieprzówka valley forming the boundary; to the northwest, it meets the Kraków Gate (Brama Krakowska); to the southeast, it adjoins the Wiśnicz Foothills (Pogórze Wiśnickie); and to the south, it borders the Maków Beskids (Beskid Makowski) and the Little Beskids (Beskid Mały). It stretches approximately 50–55 km in length, is 10–15 km wide, and covers an area of about 600 km². The Wieliczka Foothills include the Barnasiówka Range and the Bukowiec Range, with a part of its southeastern section lying within the Protected Landscape Area of the Wiśnicz Foothills. The region is rich in architectural heritage, including traditional rural buildings and historic churches that reflect the local cultural legacy. The culture of the foothills is deeply rooted in highland traditions, which have influenced local customs, art, music, and crafts. Historically, the area has witnessed numerous events related to the region’s development, including settlement patterns that evolved over centuries. Notably, the diversity of flora and fauna, along with its scenic landscapes, attracts many tourists. The area is increasingly popular among outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate hiking and immersing themselves in nature.
