wikipedia
Wieliszew is a rural municipality in the Masovian Voivodeship, located 30 km north of Warsaw, on the shores of Lake Zegrzyńskie and the Narew River. The municipality was established on January 1, 1867, and between 1975 and 1998 it belonged to the Warsaw Voivodeship. Its surface area covers 102 km², of which 53% is agricultural land and 25% is forest. The municipality has a rich archaeological heritage dating back to the Mesolithic era, as evidenced by numerous finds such as flint tools and bell graves. The history of Wieliszew is linked to important events and figures, such as Bishop Andrzej Załuski, who sought to obtain a location privilege for the village. The cultural heritage of the municipality is manifested in the architecture of the church from 1950, designed in a style reminiscent of Romanesque and Gothic buildings. Memories of the palace in Góra, whose ruins still bear traces of its former glory, evoke stories of distinguished guests such as Ignacy Krasicki. The municipality also witnessed events related to the regaining of independence, when its residents took part in the fight against the German garrison. During World War II, the municipality suffered from fighting, and after the war, the reconstruction of the destroyed areas began. Since 1973, the municipality has functioned in its present form, and the revival of local government after 1989 introduced a new coat of arms, symbolizing the local community and over 700 years of history. Among the villages of the municipality, one can mention Góra, Kałuszyn, or Olszewnica Stara, each preserving a unique cultural and historical heritage.
