wikipedia
Wierzbinek is a rural municipality located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within Konin County, boasting a rich history and an interesting demographic structure. Historically, the region lies in Kuyavia, and in the spring of 1939, in the face of the threat from Germany, the construction of defensive positions began. These fortifications, built under the direction of Captain Michał Franciszek Sapiński, were intended to serve as a base for infantry and cavalry units as part of the defensive organization of the Poznań Army. As a result of a reorganization after September 6, 1939, the site became crucial for securing the retreat of the Poznań Army. The municipality, covering an area of 148.05 km², has a predominantly agricultural land use structure, accounting for 81% of its territory. According to data from June 30, 2004, it was inhabited by 7,645 people, indicating a low population density. The municipality is home to three primary schools in Morzyczyn, Tomisławice, and Zaryń, highlighting its commitment to the education of its residents. The municipality is active in local community initiatives, with numerous Volunteer Fire Department units, such as OSP Wierzbinek, OSP Boguszyce, and OSP Synogać. Furthermore, Wierzbinek has been cooperating with the French municipality of Maure-de-Bretagne since 2004, demonstrating the local community's openness to international collaboration. In the vicinity, neighboring municipalities such as Babiak, Piotrków Kujawski, and Skulsk create a diverse climate of cooperation and development.
