XI High School named after Maria Dąbrowska in Krakow

XI Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Marii Dąbrowskiej in Kraków, founded on June 20, 1953, is one of the key educational institutions in the newly established Nowa Huta. It began its operations on September 1, 1953, initially teaching 139 students in modest conditions. For the first few years, it operated in various locations before moving to a former workers' hotel at Kocmyrzowska Street, where it remains to this day. The school's architecture is characterized by the functionality typical of that period, and the building required numerous renovations, especially in the 1970s and 1980s, when a new gymnasium was added. Culturally, the school was involved in the activities of youth organizations and various projects, such as the Warsaw Reconstruction Circle and a scouting troop. Interestingly, in 1965, the students chose the school's patron, writer Maria Dąbrowska, highlighting the importance of literature in education. XI LO has achieved numerous accolades, including the "Commission of National Education" Medal in 1984 and the title of "Bronze School" in nationwide rankings. The school actively collaborates with universities and, since 2016, has been implementing international projects under the Erasmus+ program. Beyond academics, students engage in numerous charitable activities, demonstrating their social awareness. XI LO not only provides professional education but also focuses on students' personal development through various local and international projects and initiatives.
