wikipedia
Zarzecze is a village located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, in the Nisko County, known for its Roman Catholic parish of Our Lady of the Snows and a rich history dating back to prehistoric times. In the 19th century, the settlement consisted of numerous hamlets, and its name derives from the topographical term "a place beyond the river." Archaeological finds, including a Lusatian culture burial ground and Roman coins, attest to settlement in the region as early as the Bronze Age. During the Middle Ages, Zarzecze was part of the royal estates, and its inhabitants were obliged to provide services to the church. In the 19th century, the village belonged to various administrative divisions, which influenced its demographic development, which grew throughout the 20th century. Architecturally, it features a historic wooden church, a cemetery chapel, and a Greek Catholic church. A notable historical event is the pacification of the village in 1943, during which German occupiers deported many men to labor camps, leaving a lasting mark on the local community's memory. Zarzecze is also known for its scenic tourist routes, including the yellow hiking trail from Sandomierz to Leżajsk, making it an interesting destination from both natural and historical perspectives. Despite historical turmoil, the village has preserved its unique cultural and architectural features, as well as the opportunity to explore the rich history of the region.
