wikipedia
Zawada is a village in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, in Dębica County, with a rich history dating back to the 13th century. The first written mention of the settlement comes from 1337. Once the property of the Ligęza family, the village gained significance due to the construction of a wooden chapel by Stanisław Ligęza in 1595 and the subsequent brick church dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built between 1646 and 1656. Today, it serves as a sanctuary, attracting numerous pilgrims. It is worth noting that the image of the Virgin Mary in the church, brought from Italy, was considered miraculous by the local population. The manor complex, which includes a castle, has its origins in the 16th century, and its current Neo-Gothic form, rebuilt after the destruction of World War I, was designed by architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The manor house, erected after World War I by Edward Raczyński, is Neo-Renaissance in style, drawing inspiration from English architecture. The village also features an inn, established in the 17th century, which still operates today. Zawada was the site of many historical events, including battles during World War I and partisan activities in World War II. Interestingly, only one tower survived from the original castle, and the castle was fully reconstructed during the interwar period. Zawada is home to numerous monuments, including the manor complex and the inn, which are listed in the register of historical landmarks. These aspects of Zawada highlight its exceptional cultural and architectural value in the region.
