Zbąszyń Museum of the Zbąszyń Land and the Goat Region in Zbąszyń

The Zbąszyń Land and Goat Region Museum in Zbąszyń is a cultural institution with a rich history dating back to 1938. The museum in Przyprostynia, which operated before World War II, was the first step toward preserving local history and ethnography. In the 1960s, further efforts were made in this area with the establishment of the Regional Museum of Zbąszyń Land in the gate tower of the castle, which served the community until 1990. After the dissolution of the PTTK branch, the museum's collections were transferred to the Zbąszyń Center of Culture. In 2004, using the accumulated exhibits, the Zbąszyń Land and Goat Region Museum was established and located in the former Primary School No. 2 at the market square in Zbąszyń. Architecturally, the building blends into the historical context of local architecture, creating a pleasant space for visitors. The museum offers two main types of exhibitions: historical-archaeological and ethnographic. The historical-archaeological exhibition presents the history of Zbąszyń from prehistoric times to the 20th century, featuring valuable exhibits such as a 19th-century bicycle and reproductions of pre-war postcards. The ethnographic exhibition showcases the rich folk culture of the region, with an emphasis on local costumes, everyday objects, and musical instruments, including folk goat-shaped wind instruments, which gave the region its name. The Zbąszyń Land and Goat Region Museum not only displays valuable local history but also cultivates regional traditions, serving as a meeting place and a center for cultural education. An interesting fact is that the museum combines both history and folk culture, making it an attractive destination for visitors from various parts of Poland and tourists interested in local heritage.
