wikipedia
The commune of Żychlin, located in the Łódź Voivodeship within Kutno County, boasts a rich history dating back to the time of the Kingdom of Poland, when it was part of Kutno County in the Warsaw Governorate. In 1870, Żychlin lost its town rights, becoming an urban settlement, which significantly influenced its administrative division. After Poland regained independence, Żychlin recovered its town rights in 1924, and the commune underwent several administrative reforms, including a name change to the Dobrzelin Commune in 1926. Following World War II, the Dobrzelin Commune was abolished but was reestablished in 1973. A pivotal moment came with the 1992 reform, which merged the town of Żychlin with the Dobrzelin Commune, forming the current urban-rural commune. The commune covers an area of 76.64 km², with agricultural land dominating (89%) and a minimal share of forested areas (1%). Żychlin is a member of the Association of Communes of the Kutno Region, and according to 2007 data, it had a population of 12,842. The commune borders the communes of Bedlno, Kiernozia, Oporów, Pacyna, and Zduny. In terms of culture, Żychlin takes pride in various local initiatives that contribute to the preservation of traditions and local identity. Interestingly, in 2014, an age pyramid of the inhabitants was presented, suggesting the demographic diversity of the commune. With its rich historical and structural heritage, the commune of Żychlin remains an important part of the Kutno region.
