Świdwin County

Świdnica County, located in northwestern Poland within the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, was reestablished in 1999 as part of the administrative reform. Its capital is the town of Świdwin, and the county also includes urban and rural municipalities, including Połczyn-Zdrój, known for the oldest health resort in Pomerania. The county covers an area of 1,093.06 km², with a well-developed economy based on the timber industry, food processing, and tourism. In 2020, it was home to 46,526 people. Historically, Świdnica County was established on October 1, 1954, in the Koszalin Voivodeship and has since undergone several administrative reforms. A significant event was the 1975 reform, which merged the county into the newly created Koszalin Voivodeship, and in 1999, the county was restored. The county's architecture includes monuments related to its rich history, including elements of Pomeranian and Prussian culture. Cultural centers operate within the county, organizing various events, as well as museums that showcase local heritage. In terms of security, the crime detection rate in 2009 was 76.6%. Świdnica County is also within the jurisdiction of the District Prosecutor's Office in Świdwin and the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Koszalin, with rescue forces including units of the Volunteer Fire Department and the State Fire Service. The county features a well-developed communication network, including active railway lines and provincial roads, facilitating access to neighboring regions such as Białogard, Szczecinek, Drawsko, Łobez, and Kołobrzeg counties. Interestingly, the county falls under the local jurisdiction of the District Court in Białogard and the Regional Courts in Koszalin, reflecting its role in regional judicial administration. Residents also actively participate in elections to the West Pomeranian Regional Assembly and to the Sejm and Senate, demonstrating their engagement in the political life of the region.
