wikipedia
Białogard County, established in 1999 within the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, has the city of Białogard as its capital. The county comprises the urban municipality of Białogard, the urban-rural municipalities of Karlino and Tychowo, and the rural municipality of Białogard. Covering an area of 845.46 km², it is situated in the Parsęta River basin on the Białogard Plain. The landscape was predominantly shaped by the Baltic glaciation. It borders the counties of Kołobrzeg, Koszalin, Szczecinek, and Świdwin. In 2019, the county was home to approximately 47,000 people. The local economy relies on the timber industry, agri-food processing, and agriculture, with growing tourism related to water sports and fishing on the Parsęta River. Key transport infrastructure includes regional roads and railway lines, which have played a significant role in the area's transportation history. Białogard County engages in international cooperation with the municipality of Gnosjö in Sweden and previously maintained ties with the now-dissolved Mecklenburg-Strelitz district in Germany. The presence of volunteer fire departments and a rescue unit highlights the emphasis on local residents' safety. The County Council, consisting of 17 councilors, governs the area, while residents participate in elections for the West Pomeranian Regional Assembly, the Polish Parliament, and the European Parliament. The county also boasts attractive lakes, such as Jezioro Rybackie, which enhance its tourist appeal.
