The Chojnice Commune, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship within the Chojnice County, consists of 34 village councils (sołectw), with its seat in the town of Chojnice. Inhabited by 18,826 people according to 2019 data, the commune is part of the Association of Renewable Energy-Friendly Municipalities and the Association of Local Governments with National and Landscape Parks. The history of the commune dates back to August 1, 1934, when it was established as a collective commune from previous municipal units. After World War II, the Chojnice Commune underwent various administrative transformations; it was abolished in 1954 as a result of a reform that introduced gromadas (smaller administrative units) and was reestablished on January 1, 1973. The commune is characterized by a diverse land structure: 49% of its area is agricultural land, and 38% is forests, making it an attractive area for nature enthusiasts. Within the commune, there are significant natural attractions, such as the "Bory Tucholskie" National Park, the Jezioro Małe Łowne Nature Reserve, and the Zaborski Landscape Park, highlighting the ecological value of this region. In the cultural sphere, the commune is home to many local traditions and events that are an integral part of the community. An interesting fact is that the commune was under German administration during World War II, which influenced its subsequent development.
