wikipedia
Choszczno, also known as Arnswalde, is a town in northwestern Poland, located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, on the shores of Lake Kluki. Its history dates back to the times of the Piast dynasty, with the origins of settlement linked to areas inhabited by Slavs. In 1296, the town was taken over by Brandenburg and became part of the New March. A key moment in Choszczno's history was the granting of town rights under Magdeburg Law in 1284. The town's golden age occurred in the 14th and 15th centuries, when its fortification system, market square, and town hall were built. The destruction during World War II was immense, with 83% of the buildings destroyed, and many valuable structures, including the Old Town, were almost completely lost. Choszczno is home to several historical monuments, including the Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the 14th century and fragments of the town's defensive walls, which reflect its rich history and architecture. The local culture is supported by institutions such as the Garrison Club and the State Music School, which organize various artistic events. The town collaborates with international partners, fostering the exchange of experiences in culture, education, and the economy. An interesting initiative is the "Arnswalde VR" project, which reconstructs the town's pre-war buildings using virtual reality technology, allowing residents to travel back in time to the period before World War II. As a center of local administration and culture, Choszczno boasts developed infrastructure, including sports and recreational facilities that attract both residents and tourists.
